Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has called out countries for imposing travel bans on African countries following the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
He said this while delivering an address to the European Union Parliament, in which he also reiterated the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS’s) opposition of the travel bans.
According to the president, attempts were made to make COVID-19 an African disease, creating a false narrative that infection levels were being covered up.
He also called for vaccines to be made available worldwide, as that would aid in fighting COVID-19 more effectively
