Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has written to Sheikh Al Maktoum with whom he signed a deal to procure Sputnik V vaccines, to refund the money for the non-supplied doses.

Mr Agyeman-Manu requested the refund per letter dated August 2. This comes after the Committee tasked to investigate the deal, found that the amount of $2,850,000 (representing 50% of the contract sum of $5,700,000.00) has been paid to Messrs Al Maktoum despite the Minister claiming no payment had been made to the best of his knowledge.

Already there are calls for the resignation of the minister for procurement breeches and his prosecution for committing perjury when he claimed no money had been released for the procurement of the vaccines.

In addition to requesting for the refund, the minister also made it clear that his demands fall in line with the law.

The sheikh is yet to respond and a decision on the minister’s fate is yet to be made by parliament.
