Ghana has announced that parts of the country will be subject to power outages for three weeks due to insufficient supplies of natural gas from Nigeria.
A joint statement was issued on Friday by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)
These two companies supply electricity to all households, organizations and administratives in Ghana.
Gridco and ECG in the statement assured the public that they are collaborating with other stakeholders in the energy value chain to optimize available resources and ensure that the impact of energy reduction gas supply to consumers is minimal.
Locally known as Dumsor, power outages have been common for years in Ghana where electricity demand has steadily increased over two decades partly due to rapid urbanization and population growth.
Recall last week, hundreds of people demonstrated in Accra, to protest against power cuts which have harmed businesses and residents.
