The Gambia’s Minister of Fisheries has been summoned by members of the National Assembly to provide details of a secret fishing agreement that exists between the Gambia and Senegal.
The MPs were made aware of this agreement after the minister hinted about it on Monday when he appeared before the lawmakers to clarify concerns surrounding activities taking place in this sector.
There have been concerns by Gambians about the operation of fishmeal factories in the country, which they say are depleting the fish stock on the Gambian coast, a vital source of nutrition in the country.
A Fishmeal is a commercial product mostly made from fish that are not used for human consumption. It is generally used to feed farm animals in an agricultural setting.
Hon.Touma Njai is a member of the National Assembly, and has been telling WADR about this development.
