The Gambia Press Union has called President Adama Barrow out for making false statements against journalists in the country.

It comes after the president recently accused some journalists and media houses of broadcasting fake news.

The union said that such claims by President Barrow put the safety of journalists at risk and urged him to desist from making such utterances.

The union said such posture is a deviation from a promise the president made to protect journalists and press freedom following his election in 2016.
