In Niger republic, the heavy rains recorded since the start of the season have claimed 40 lives, including 18 by drowning and 22 by collapse as of August 19, 2022, this according to the latest report by the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC).
The DGPC said in its assessment, that the country recorded 40 deaths, 55 injuries, 8,299 collapsed houses, 842 damaged huts, 9,207 households affected with a total of 78,198 people affected, adding that the heavy rains flooded all 8 regions.
In 2021, there were 44 dead, 34 injured and 45,768 victims, distributed in 5,218 households as of August 8, 2021
