Fire incident at Sierra Leone’s State House contained

A fire broke out yesterday, April 12, 2025, at the State House in central Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Ministry of Information and Civic Education reports that the fire started around 4:00 p.m. on the 4th Floor of the West Wing and later extended to the 3rd Floor.

The National Fire Force and law enforcement agencies were alerted at approximately 4:15 p.m. and swiftly mobilized to the scene. As of 7:30 p.m., efforts to extinguish the blaze were still underway, with the fire contained to the affected floors.

Support for the emergency response was provided by multiple government bodies, including the Office of National Security, the Sierra Leone Police, Armed Forces, and the Guma Valley Water Company.

Fortunately, the Office of the President, located on the 2nd Floor, was not affected. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and emergency teams are working diligently to ensure the building remains secure.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and rely on official channels for further updates as investigations continue.
