While the Economic Community of West Africa State (ECOWAS) irons out Modalities on the six-month transition period with the three AES countries from the bloc, concerns have been raised about how will the three countries fair independently while opting out.
At the just ended 66th ordinary summit of heads of state and government, President of the ECOWAS Commission Dr Omar Alieu Touray read a resolution in accordance with Article 91 of the ECOWAS treaties which recognizes the sovereignty of member states.
Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger despite request to exit the bloc still looks forward to keep trade and diplomatic ties with other ECOWAS member countries.
Though the trio had a day before the ECOWAS Summit on Sunday, they insisted on leaving the subregional body by January 29, 2025.
