This episode highlights two climate summits both aimed at mitigating the impact of global warming.
First, is The Sahel climate, peace and security forum that came to a close last weekend with a declaration to institute mechanisms to ensure the drivers of climate change in the region are checked and effectively managed.
For three days, delegations from the countries of the Sahel met in Bamako, the Malian capital to discuss the measures to be taken to combat climate change in the liptako-gourma, which is the tri-border zone connecting Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.
This area is similarly characterised by a concentration of security threats.
A historic Bamako Declaration was adopted at the end of the meeting.
A roadmap for combating climate change, which is exacerbating the security crisis in the Sahel.
And in Nairobi – Kenya, International delegates, environment experts and the UN Environment Program UNEP are deciding on a roadmap to end plastic pollution across the world.
