In Guinea, no fewer than 15 miners were killed on Thursday after a landslide hit an artisanal gold mine in the country’s northeast Siguiri region.
An official of Norassoba town, Fatoumata Traore, confirmed that the landslide had killed eight people and injured five.
He said the victims' bodies have been sent to a local hospital, where four injured persons are being treated, with the one seriously injured transferred to the Kankan regional hospital for emergency treatment.
Northeastern Guinea is rich in gold resources. In Siguiri Province, accidents such as landslides occur frequently due to illegal gold mining activities
