The ECOWAS Court of Justice sitting in Abuja – Nigeria's capital on Tuesday opened for the first ruling in the case of suspension of Twitter in Nigeria.
The community court in its ruing ordered the federal government to stop prosecuting Nigerians who use VPNs to access the social network despite the suspension.
The office of the minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation had threatened to prosecute all those who would circumvent the measure.
This ruling is the first phase of a procedure opened before the Community Court by a rights group – the socio – economic and accountability project SERAP and some 420 Nigerians.
