The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice (CCJ) has dismissed a lawsuit brought by a coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) against the Ghanaian government.
The suit challenged the legitimacy of a Gold Royalties Monetization Transaction, commonly known as the Agyapa deal. In 2018, Ghana’s parliament enacted the Minerals Income Investment Fund Act, which established a special-purpose vehicle known as the Agyapa Royalties Investment Ltd.
This entity was tasked with managing 75.6 percent of the country’s mineral resource royalties held in offshore accounts.
