The ECOWAS Parliament has called on politicians, civil society groups and members of the public to rally behind Mali’s transitional government in order to ensure peace prevails in the country.

Following a coup in August 2020 that ousted President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, a transitional government was formed to last 18-month after which presidential and legislative elections would be held.

The country has however been plagued with several challenges, many of them security related, with terrorism and inter-community violence, as well as matters bordering on corruption and institutional failure.

After a meeting between the ECOWAS Parliament and President of the transitional government in Bamako, Mali, speaker of parliament Sidie Mohamed Tunis expressed optimism that the 6 pronged action plan expected to lead the country to democratic rule by March 2022 would be achieved.
