The regional bloc – The Economic Community of West African States and the African Development Bank intend to implement a framework to regulate the regional market together.
The virtual meeting between the two organization, which is scheduled for today, is the first of its kind since the establishment of the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ARCC) – the department in charge of trade.
The regional bloc in a statement Thursday said it was committed to sealing this partnership through ARCC under the coordination of the Department of Commerce, Customs and Free Movement of Persons of the ECOWAS Commission.
According to ECOWAS, the meeting of June 4, 2021 stems from the need for the ARCC to mobilize resources from international technical and financial partners and to promote cooperation between the bloc and its partners.
The regional competition authority seeks to inform the African Development Bank of the effective start of its activities, and to identify, together, areas of collaboration, as well as possible technical and financial support avenues to be explored.
