In Togo, the “Don’t Touch My Constitution” Front—a coalition of political parties and civil society groups—has expressed disappointment over discussions at the ongoing African Public Debt Conference in Lomé.
The group, a vocal opponent of constitutional changes under the proposed Fifth Republic, criticized the forum for ignoring the pressing socio-political issues facing ordinary Togolese citizens.
While the conference brings together African leaders and financial experts to tackle the continent’s growing debt crisis, the coalition argues that it sidesteps local demands for democratic reform and accountability.
