Healthcare services in Nigeria’s capital face disruption as resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) begin a three-day warning strike on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The strike follows the sudden dismissal of 127 health workers by the FCT Civil Service Commission last Friday.
Dr. George Ebong, president of the Association of Resident Doctors, described the dismissals as “inhumane and illegal,” accusing the Commission of bypassing due process. The doctors are demanding the workers’ reinstatement, payment of April salaries, and the resignation of Commission chairman Emeka Ezeh.
Unless their demands are met within three days, the doctors say they will escalate to an indefinite strike, potentially paralyzing health services across Abuja.
