In Sierra Leone, witnesses testifying against the country’s former rebel commander Gibril Massaquoi insist he was in Liberia during the latter part of the Liberian civil war in 2003.
Prosecutors recently returned to Liberia to interview additional witnesses after lawyers representing Mr. Massaquoi alleged that witnesses who earlier testified against him were paid to do so.
They claimed that Massaquoi was in Sierra Leone in 2003, assisting the UN-backed court for Sierra Leone with its investigations into the atrocities committed during that country’s civil war.
Journalist Anthony Stephens was at the hearing in Monrovia, from where he told us more.
