The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, AfricaCDC, says the biggest challenge for Africa today is to fully dispel the misinformation about covid 19, which has slowed down immunization coverage on the continent.
To reverse this trend, Africa CDC organized a three-day training for health journalists in Benin.
According to Albert Dibaya, with the CDC, said to date, three African countries have achieved 70% vaccination, and 21 African countries have vaccinated more than 40% of their population. Overall, less than 22% of the African population is fully immunized.
He said the main objective of the training is to strengthen the role of media professionals in developing their capacity to respond to COVID-19, and in future efforts to prevent and respond to the pandemic. Several journalists representing major media outlets from 15 West African countries are participating.
