Several administrative and military officials in Côte d’Ivoire’s western region of Silipou have been relieved of their duties for their involvement in a food leak network.
A statement from the Ivorian army’s chief of staff revealed that the dismissed officials had been illegally exporting agricultural cash crops to a neighboring country without government authorization.
This crackdown comes amidst Côte d’Ivoire’s ban on exporting specific cash crops within the sub-region, an effort to curb a potential food crisis. The government has vowed to strengthen oversight to prevent such occurrences.
