Côte d’Ivoire’s government has approved a revision to Article 51 of the Electoral Code, just six months before the 2025 presidential election.

The amendment targets the endorsement process for presidential candidates, requiring each aspirant to secure backing from 1% of registered voters across at least half of the country’s districts and regions.

Government officials say the change is aimed at strengthening the democratic process and ensuring credible candidacies.
