In Chad, mounting concerns are being raised by the legal team representing opposition leader and former Prime Minister Dr. Succès Masra, who has now spent over 40 days in detention.
The Lawyers’ Collective warns that Masra’s health is deteriorating, especially after he declared a hunger strike on Wednesday to protest what they describe as an “unjust and illegal” imprisonment.
Their alarm was formally expressed in a letter titled “Letter from a Chadian Prison,” dated June 24, where Masra reportedly outlined his grievances, including breaches of due process and arbitrary detention. The legal team is calling for immediate international attention to the case and respect for his fundamental rights.
