Several Chadian soldiers, including two generals, have been killed were killed and others wounded during fierce clashes with Boko Haram militants in the Lake Chad region on Saturday. Local media reported that six soldiers lost their lives in the incident, which follows a deadly Boko Haram attack last month that killed 40 soldiers at a military base in Lac province.
The Saturday clash occurred amid ongoing operations launched by President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, who has been actively leading a campaign against the militant group since the attack on the Barkaram base, located about 480 kilometers from the capital, N’Djamena. Deby expressed his condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and commended the bravery of the forces, stating that their heroic efforts led to the defeat of the Boko Haram group that had infiltrated Chadian territory.
In his message, the president reaffirmed the ongoing commitment of Chad’s military in Operation Haskanite, aimed at eradicating Boko Haram and other insurgent groups from the region. Despite the recent setbacks, the government has vowed to continue its fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad basin, where Chad’s forces routinely clash with Boko Haram and other extremist factions. The operation includes air, sea, and land components as Chad seeks to restore peace and security in the volatile region.
