Some business owners in Sierra Leoneans have raised concerns over the installation of electronic cash registry machines in their premises. According to them, the presence and use of the machine may increase their tax obligations, therefore affecting their profit margins.
The NRA Commissioner General has however cleared the doubt at a news conference stating that the machine is only a digitalized system of the Good and Services Tax which replaces the paper based system collecting data and payment for the authority.
Dr. Samuel Jibao said only businesses that are within the thresholds of over one hundred million Leones or ten thousand dollars are entitled to have the machine with the fifteen percent deduction.
