Authorities in Burkina Faso have announced the foiling of a coup attempt allegedly orchestrated from neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire.

The plot, which involved Burkinabe officers in-country and in exile, was reportedly set for execution on April 16.

Security Minister reports indicate that swift action dismantled the plan before it could unfold.

The announcement underscores ongoing instability in the Sahel nation under military rule.
