BURKINA FASO – Reaction Trails Foiled Counter-Coup Attempt
The Burkinabe government confirmed it foiled an attempted coup, with some of the soldiers involved arrested.
This is coming after the latest coup in Niger in July, which saw the removal of President Mohammed Bazoum.
Recall the news of the attempted coup emanated earlier Tuesday which prompted a demonstration by the population, especially around the military headquarters.
However, reactions have trailed this development.
Our guest, Dr Oluwole Ojewale, the ENACT Regional Organised Crime Observatory Coordinator for Central Africa at the Institute for Security Studies in Dakar, says the earlier these military governments organize an election for a transition to democratic rule, the safer for them.
