Burkina Faso President Rock Marc Kaboré, has taken over the defence ministry, sacking the substantive minister and replacing the security minister.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Chérif Sy had been removed and replaced by the President. Colonel-Major Barthélémy Simporé has been appointed Minister Delegate after the President, in charge of defense. Former security minister Ousséni Compaoré has also been replaced by Maxime Koné.
The security reshuffle comes at a time when the opposition is demanding the resignation of the prime minister and defense minister accused of failing in the fight against terrorism.
The opposition is also planning a march over the weekend to denounce the government’s inaction in the face of the upsurge in deadly attacks.
On Monday, Balai Citoyen, a social movement even lodged a complaint against the government for failing to assist anyone in danger following the Solhan massacre.
