Authorities have denied rumors of attempted coup after soldiers reportedly fired gunshots for hours from barracks in the capital Ouagadougou, and at a nearby airbase.

Soldiers were said to have mutinied demanding the removal of the country's army Chief and senior military officials in order to have a change in the approach to the fight against insecurity in the country.

The government has since imposed a night-time curfew till further notice.
