The government of Burkina Faso has officially declared a dengue fever epidemic in response to the deadliest outbreak in recent memory.
With the death toll surpassing 200 and a rapid increase in new cases, the Ministry of Health has reported 50,478 suspected cases and 214 fatalities from this mosquito-borne disease in urban areas, primarily in the capital city of Ouagadougou and Bobo Dioulasso.
