The burial of the former president of the Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou, is taking place later today.
Hayatou died a few days ago following an illness.
Several big names have been announced to take part in the ceremony that will take place in Garoua, Cameroon. Among them are Ahmad Ahmad, former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Constant Omari, former president of the Congolese Football Federation and member of the FIFA Council, as well as Souleymane Waberi, vice-president of CAF.
Other dignitaries expected to attend include current CAF president Patrice Motsepe and FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.
Samuel Eto’o, current president of the Cameroon Football Association, is also expected to be in attendance.
Issa Hayatou, an emblematic leader of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for nearly three decades (1988-2017), died on August 8, 2024 in Paris on the eve of his 78th birthday.
Before his mandate at CAF, he led Fécafoot, the Cameroonian football authority from 1986 to 1988, and became a member of the Executive Council of FIFA, as well as of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
