Boko Haram has been seriously weakened in the Lake Chad basin. This is the finding of the UN Secretary General's Special Representative in Central Africa.

François Lounceny Fall was touring the area where the Nigerian terrorist group operates.

The UN diplomat also noted that all these years of violence have destroyed much of the infrastructure in the region.

Ten years of violence have caused much damage to the basic infrastructure. The UN Secretary General's Special Envoy to Central Africa also noted a lull in the attacks by terrorist fighters over the past five months.

At the end of his tour, the UN diplomat promised that the UN will work with the international community to support the Mixed Multinational Force against Boko Haram, which includes the military of Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon.

According to the UN, more than 40 million people are living in poor conditions in the Lake Chad basin because of Boko Haram attacks.
