In Côte d’Ivoire, the Zimrida ship carrying a cargo of ammonium nitrate docked off the coast of Abidjan, sparking concerns about public safety.
Following a technical meeting involving port authorities, ministry representatives, the shipowner, and the cargo owner, officials assured that the cargo posed no danger to the population.
The Port of Abidjan clarified in a press release that ammonium nitrate is not toxic waste but an authorized substance widely used for fertilizers and explosives in earthmoving operations. Precautionary measures remain in place to monitor the situation closely.
