Amnesty International says it has recorded tens of thousands of people forcibly evicted since January 2024 from the neighborhoods of Gesco, Boribana, Banco 1, and Abattoir in Cote d’Ivoire.
The human rights NGO notes that these are evictions without adequate and reasonable notifications, some involving violence.
Amnesty International added that the promised support measures from the State for these people are also still pending.
The NGO continues that thousands of evicted families have still not been rehoused or compensated.
It also indicates that many children have since been deprived of education and hundreds of farmers deprived of their livelihoods.
Amnesty International urges the Ivorian State to urgently implement support measures for all those affected by the evictions.
The human rights organization also calls on the Ivorian State to suspend mass evictions in Abidjan until guarantees are put in place.
It should be noted that last February, the Ivorian Human Rights Council denounced eviction operations carried out in disregard of fundamental rights and without consultation.
