All is set for the inauguration of Burkina Faso’s President Paul-Henri Damibatoday. According to a government statement, the ceremony will be broadcast live at 10 a.m. by Radiodiffusion-Télévision du Burkina (RTB) but will not be open to other media, because of the small size of the Constitutional Council.
Today’s inauguration comes weeks after Damiba, who led the January 24 coup in Burkina Faso, was named the new head of state for a transitional period.
Already, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union have suspended Burkina Faso from their bodies, without further sanctions, asking the junta for a "reasonable" timetable for this "return to constitutional order".
Earlier this month, a decree by incoming President Damiba announced the creation of a 15-member commission to "draw up a draft charter and agenda, together with a proposal for the duration of the transition and implementation modalities"within"two weeks".
