The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says countries plagued by recent Mpox outbreak will soon receive vaccines.
The continent having recorded more than 30,000 cases since the start of the year, continues to experience an aggressive spread of the viral disease.
At 500 people have succumbed to the current epidemic whose epicentre is the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Addressing a virtual conference Tuesday, Jean Kaseya, Head of the AFRICA CDC revealed that the European Union has pledged doses of the vaccine while BioNtech, a pharmaceutical giant is leading more research.
Kaseya, said although vaccines are an integral component of the fight against Mpox, the continent needs to prioritise research and coordinate responses.
