Africa CDC allocates $800 million to combat surging Mpox outbreak

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has pledged over $800 million towards the fight against a surging mpox outbreak on the continent, the agency’s head said on Thursday. 

Jean Kaseya, Director General of the Africa CDC added that this amount was higher than its target of raising $600 million against mpox, which was declared a global health emergency in mid-August after a new strain began spreading from the Democratic Republic of Congo to neighbouring countries.
