The Confederation of Sahel States (AES) officially unveiled its new anthem, Sahel Benkan, on Monday, June 9, 2025, during simultaneous ceremonies in the capitals of its three member countries—Bamako (Mali), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), and Niamey (Niger).
In Bamako, the anthem was performed during a flag-raising ceremony at Koulouba attended by Mali’s transitional president, General Assimi Goïta. Authorities say Sahel Benkan reflects the unity and shared values of the AES.
Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga announced that the anthem will be integrated into school curricula and played during official confederation events to deepen civic identity across the region.
