Global organizations working on the front against polio are calling on countries in Africa to redouble their efforts and ensure that all children on the continent are vaccinated against the disease.
The call comes amid sharp increases in a polio variant, circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus, in countries across the continent.
Due to the corona virus outbreak last, vaccination exercises were severely interrupted, leaving millions of children on the continent vulnerable to the disease.
In August last year, the African continent was certified wild poliovirus-free.
Despite this incredible public health achievement for the continent, health experts say the job is not finished.
