IFEST calls for suspension of reopening of schools

The Institute for Education Studies (IFEST) is calling on Ghana’s Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to suspend the reopening of basic schools until all relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are distributed to all schools in the country.

Basic schools reopened on Monday with reports indicating children did not have access to face masks and buckets and in some instances hand sanitizers despite assurances by authorities that these would be made readily available.

Speaking to WADR’s Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson, acting executive director of the institute Peter Anti said the situation could result in a further increase in COVID cases in the country.

He therefore demands the matter be addressed immediately.
