Guinea junta bans political protests

The military junta ruling Guinea has banned political protests after announcing a three-year transition period before civilian rule is restored.

Opposition political and civil-society groups in the world’s top exporter of bauxite rejected the timeline, saying that it was adopted without consultation. The National Front for the Defense of the Constitution has also threatened to embark on a series of demonstrations against the proposed transition period.

Abdulahi Hassan reports.
