Ghana's government pleads with teachers to call off strike

Deputy Minister for Employment, Bright Wereko Brobbey

Ghana's government has implored striking teacher unions to be considerate and call off their industrial action even as they prepare to meet the government tomorrow.

The four teacher unions comprising the Ghana National Association of Teachers, National Association of Graduate Teachers, Coalition of Concerned Teachers, and the Teachers and Education workers union declared an indefinite strike on Monday over the government’s failure to pay a 20% Cost of Living Allowance meant to cushion them against the rising cost of living.

Deputy Minister for Employment Bright Wereko Brobbey says the teachers should be considerate with the government and return to the classroom.
