The Country Director of Water Aid Nigeria, Dr Chichi Aniagolu-Okoye says Nigerian is on the verge of catastrophe due to poor sanitation.
The statement by the Water Aid Country Director comes as the Borno State Ministry of Health in northeast has reported 380 cases of suspected cholera in eight local government areas in the state, including 14 deaths.
The central government has last year declared a state of emergency in response to the sanitation crisis.
According to official figures, only 34 percent of Nigeria’s nearly 200 million people have access to proper sanitation.
Dr Okoye spoke to WADR’s Adolphus Mawolo via whatsapp from Abuja, Nigeria about the situation.
