The head of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Niger says Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou is teaching a lesson to the rest of the world.
Guiseppe Loprete’s statements come after President Issoufou said over the weekend that his country will continue to be a transit country for migrants, including those entering from neighbouring Libya.
Libya has become a prime destination for African migrants trying to reach Europe, but it is also dangerous, with many migrants and refugees enduring enslavement, kidnapping, extortion and violence.
Mr Loprete spoke to WADR on the line from the Nigerien capital Niamey.
