The rector of Senegal’s northwest University of Gaston Berger in Saint Louis has been dismissed by the government following a campus riot last week that left a student dead.
The student was reportedly shot by the police who had been called upon by the rector to quell the protest which centered on delay in payment of bursaries.
As the government leads a full-scale investigation into the incident, the students are also calling for the dismissal of the Ministers of Economy and Higher Education.
Yankubah Seydi is the former president of the Universities Lecturers Association of Senegal.
He spoke to WADR about the solution to this problem.
