Ghana: Police together with UN investigate accused peacekeepers

  • 28 February 2018

Ghanaian authorities say they are cooperating with the UN over investigation of some of their police personnel who have been accused of sexual exploitation while on a peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

The UN says forty-six peacekeepers from Ghana have been recalled from their base following allegations of sexual exploitation of women sheltering at a site for displaced people.
The 46 police were confined to barracks in Juba on Saturday after a preliminary investigation showed that the Ghanaians were "engaging in sexual activity with women" living at a UN site to protect civilians in Wau.
David Acklu is Ghana’s Assistant Police Commissioner for Public Affairs.
