Nigeria: Army General refutes Biafran group accusations

  • 12 September 2017

The Nigerian Army has denied reports that its members had opened fire at militants of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who are fighting for secession in Nigeria.
The incident is said to have occurred in Umuahia, the state capital of Abia State in the south eastern part of the country, during a mission of the army’s so-called Exercise Python Dance.
But speaking to journalists in Abuja, the Army Spokesman, Major General John Enenche, said the troops were instead attacked by IPOB members.
