The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for signing into law, the Freedom of Information Bill.

The bill was first presented to the House of Representatives in 1999. It was passed in August 2004 but the President, Olusegun Obasanjo in March 2007 declined to sign it into law.

Shu’aibu Usman Leman, the National Secretary of NUJ, described President Jonathan as a man of his words. He told WADR that the signing of the bill is a manifestation that the Nigerian journalists will have a cordial relationship with the Jonathan administration.

Leman however cautioned the journalists not to abuse the Freedom of Information law.
