Sierra Leone: Center to resolve business disputes set up

May 16, 2011

A center to resolve disputes between businesses in Sierra Leone has been set up by the country’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.

Melicent Lewis-Ojumu, a Council Member of the Chamber, has told WADR that the “Center is to help businesses settle their disputes preferably out of the court system in a manner that is efficient, cheaper and certainly faster.”

She said the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution will resolve all commercial disputes so long it concerns a business and their business activity.

“The center is designed to provide a forum in which the problem can be properly and speedily addressed, as well as make it cheaper for the business to solve the problem and continue to do their business,” stressed Mrs Lewis-Ojumu.

According to her, the center offers mediation as well as arbitration and all other forms and trainings for people that want to be expert arbitrators.

“It will also offer services to even the formal court system and all other smaller systems to have a formal way of doing mediation or dispute resolution,” she added.
