Save the Children Sweden has been highlighting the current humanitarian situation in Ivory Coast. Officials of the charity say despite a gradual improvement in security, the overall humanitarian conditions are still grave.

Ivory Coast had been locked in renewed civil war sparked by dispute over last November's presidential election. It ended with the capture of sit-tight former President Laurent Gbagbo, who is currently being detained in the north of the country, stronghold of New Forces rebels backing President Alassane Ouattara.

Officials of the charity told Journalists in Senegal’s capital, Dakar on Wednesday that a ship loaded with food items and medicines has arrived in Ivory Coast to begin assisting those whose lives have been affected by months of post-election crisis.

Eva Molt is Save the Children Sweden’s Programme Manager for West and Central Africa. This is what she told WADR's Alexis Bies.
