In Nigeria, 8 new governors have been elected, while 12 others retained their post through the ballot box.

Last week's post election violence, which is said to have resulted to the deaths of at lease 500 people, has forced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delay the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Voting took place for governors and state lawmakers on Thursday in the northern states of Kaduna and Bauchi, which were worst hit by deadly rioting after presidential election. The violence had forced INEC to delay those elections by two days.

According to WADR's Correspondent, Martins Odeh, who was monitoring the polls in the middle and north, the accreditation and voting exercise was peaceful, but turnout was low.

WADR's Correspondent in the Nigerian commercial capital, Lagos, Segun Fatuashe has details on the release of some of the results.
