Many northerners boycotted Tuesday's vote in Nigeria

Nigerians are waiting anxiously for the formal announcements of the results of the April 26 elections for governorship and local House of Assembly members.

The elections which were conducted under tight security however witnessed an appreciable turn out in the Southern part of the country and apathy in the North. On April 16 in the presidential election, a southerner or the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP), incumbent Dr. Goodluck Jonathan was elected with a wide margin.
